Why is an Analytics Team’s Engagement Critical and How Can a Manager Encourage This?
As with any team, engagement is critical to an analytics team’s success. If your analytics team is not currently engaged, they are most likely doing the bare minimum tasks that their stakeholders are requesting; it’s highly unlikely that they’re proactively learning and using the most efficient and effective tools and techniques, and also highly unlikely that they’re proactively using their knowledge of the capabilities of analytics to identify and pursue actionable analysis to address the organization’s opportunities and challenges. There are many ways to try to increase your analytics team’s engagement. Most importantly, analytics managers at your organization need to get to know each one of their analyst’s unique desires and work together on a career development plan to provide a vision for how their direct reports can achieve their goals and have success at your organization. Be sure to encourage continual learning and development through regular analytics trainings, one-day solutions, analysis meetings, office hours, 1:1 mentorship, and more. These activities can improve analysts’ skills and efficiency, which allows them to deliver more value for the organization, while having a better work-life balance. Watch the video above to learn how to be the kind of people-focused manager that drives engagement among team members by focusing on their development.
